Mixing skin shades is daunting task and if your paints dry before you can use them, nothing is more frustrating than that. I mixed these skin shades with acrylic paints in Feb 2025 for a project and they still good to use for my painting in April. How did I do this? You don't need much for it..
1. Plastic wrap (I reused the plastic my canvas was packed in.
2. Water spray
3. Box
4. Palette or plate which.can fit inside the box.

Strps..
1. I wrapped my palette with plastic and kept sides of plastic loose.
2. Mixed my colors and arranged them on plastic wrapped palette.
3. Spray some water on the colors.
4. Wrapped the colors with loose sides of the plastic wrap.
5. Put the palette in the box, close the lid and put the box in the fridge.
6. Whenever you need paints, just take out a little on another palette and put box back in the fridge.

This will keep your colors wet for months.

Sometimes you have to start over to get better results. For me better customer service is very important and I'll redo if they are not fully satisfied with the final outcome. Little extra work brings the clients back. And they do come back for more.

When you paint portraits with semi abstract style you want to keep your brushstrokes as visible as possible. You need to stop the urge to blend and make your lines smooth and blurred as we do for traditional portrait paintings. Use good amount of paint and leave it there for a texture in your portrait.

My latest creation of two beautiful kids with adorable cat. I chose my most favorite semi abstract style for this as I was given full freedom by client to choose style and colors. It was a repeat order by a pastor client. I'm so proud that I have created 4 paintings for him in last 3 years.

I chose to keep face colors natural and used more vibrant colors for the background amd outfits. Outfits were given same colors as the background so they will blend in with it.

When shipping a rolled canvas we tend to make some mistakes as a beginning artist. I wish someone told me these before I started shipping overseas.
1. Make sure you measure the canvas correctly. When you send a rolled canvas client will have to get it stretched by themselves. Always leave atleast 15cm extra than the actual size client put order for.

2. Keep sides (depth) of the canvas in mind. If the order is for 100 cm for example, keep painting size atleast 100+7-8 cm extra.

3. Use tape for fine finishing line around the canvas. When we use stretched canvas we don't have to worry much about if our sides are even as frame helps us to stay in line. But when painting on unstretched canvas, it's good to use masking tape to get smooth finishing.

4. Invest in good packing materials for your paintings. You have worked very hard to create the art now you don't want it to get destroyed because you shipped it in a plastic bag. Invest in good quality tube carton boxes and poster tubes.

5. Use a hard cardboard roll ( don't know exact name for it) under your rolled canvas to give support to your painting so it won't get pressed under weight during transport.

6. Insure your painting when shipping. Loosing things during transition is not a myth. It's very real and can cost you the whole amount of your artwork.

7. Always use shipping company which is reliable and provides tracking details. You would want to keep checking where is your precious artwork is now.

I might be forgetting some points. Let me know whatni missed.

Pixi celebrated 25th anniversary this year and I was invited to be part of it as a live calligrapher. This is not something I usually do..it was fun and very fulfilling to see so many happy faces when we wrote their names on the makeup palette.

We wrote almost 150 names on 150 palettes during 4 hours of the event.

I'm excited to reveal my largest canvas painting as of now! I have not been posting much since Oct and this painting is the reason why! It took me whole month to finish it but is was worth it!!
In September I was reached out by my client. They say they want a huge modern canvas painting to gift their friend who is moving to DOHA. They wanted something modern and personalized. Maybe a group portrait painting with modern style textures and colors.
They also gave me two different pictures to mix together. Background from one picture bar and the cathedral windows and men in suits from another image.
I mixed both the images in one and presented the demo in a digital collage first to give an idea how I'm going to compose it.
It had been a great pleasure and amazing experience working on this piece. I also figured out how to stick a huge canvas piece to wall without any damage.

I got tired of cleaning my palette. I tried disposable paper palette also but keep running out of them so I came up with solution. I don't throw plastic which comes with canvas as packing. I save them and use for making my disposable palette and giving textures to my paintings!!
